A message from the Baron:

Good day!
Once again I have allowed the news section of the site to flounder and for that, I apologize. I’ve been horribly worn out since Stephanstag (Stephan’s Day, Dec. 26th), but I won’t trouble you with the details as they are of a filthy nature.

Lots and lots going on recently, so I’ll start with the band’s new album, Goodnight Magic Fingers. This record has been in the works for two years and is now complete. CDs are being pressed and will be available soon, but you can purchase the album for download now through the music & press page. Below are some details to delight your information-starved mind.

Rabid Wolves/System of Control 7”
Wrap your little fingers around a glorious translucent blue 7” vinyl featuring two exclusive Saturday Nights songs! These were actually recorded while GMF was being mixed, so technically it’s even newer than the album. This record is a mere $5 shipped to your house. No turntable? Download both songs for free!

My Old Kentucky Blog Live Performance:
The band recently traveled to Indiana and performed a live studio session for My Old Kentucky Blog and WEEM 91.7. Check out the post on MOKB, which features photos from the session, free mp3 downloads of three live songs as well as a couple of free mp3s from the Queenslandicus album.

December 2006
Sorry for the lengthy gap in news updates. I'm finally prepared to offer tidings of joy for the holiday season! First, on behalf of the band, I'd like to say "ank ou" to everyone who came out to the shows this year and purchased copies of the 7" and/or "Queenslandicus." It's been a busy year and the next release (album #2) is nearing completion. Saff is at the helm again, all guitars, pedals and vintage synths have been dusted off and Joe Daley has been grinding his teeth feverishly in anticipation of each forthingcoming session. Rumor has it that the band is tossing around the idea of doing a 12" vinyl release this time around. Chances are, cds will be a thing of the past by the time it's ready anyhow. Keep your fingers crossed. More to come soon.

To close out the year, the band will be playing Empty Bottle's Alex Chilton Birthday Bash on Thursday, December 28th. There are a ton of bands on the bill. It starts at 8pm. There is no schedule for who plays when yet, so just show up and the boys will be on sooner or later to perform THREE Chilton tunes. None of the bands involved are playing full sets. Here are the details:
WLUW presents the second annual ‘Alex Chilton birthday bash’, an evening of music that celebrates the work of beloved songwriter and BIG STAR frontman ALEX CHILTON. The program, as one might imagine, will feature live reinterpretations of CHILTON’S songs, performed by (in no particular order) THE BRAVES, DOLEFUL LIONS, FAREWELL CAPTAIN, FEATHERGUN, THE INURED PARTIES, JOY POPPERS, JOHN KIMLER, RICH MILLER, DANN MORR & THE NEW FICTION, THE PRAMS, RECENT PHOTO, THE SATURDAY NIGHTS, TENNISCOURTS and VAN GO. It should make for quite a night.

So for now, that is all genties and ladymen.
Should you have any pressing queries, send them through the mystical circuitry of the interweb to the attention of ...

The Baron!

Good day to you lads and lasses!
After undergoing a series of curious mechanical and chemical processes, "Queenslandicus" is finally ready for public consumption! I believe we began recording in August of 2004, so it seems like a miracle that it's actually done now. Phew. Feast your eyes on the goodies:

Title: Queenslandicus
Running Length: 50 minutes & 48 seconds

Tracklisting:
01. There Is A Sign
02. Julianna Convince Me
03. Stranded
04. Scarecrow's Hat
05. Change My Mind
06. Fire In The Hearth
07. The Pragmatician
08. New Atmosphere
09. Catacomb
10. You Crafty Devil

We owe a huge debt to Carl Saff for putting up with us, not to mention engineering, mixing and mastering it. Also, clap your hands for Mr. Nathan Barth who was kind enough to assist us with graphic design and layout.

Lovely.

Good day!!! Thanks be extended like the arm of a bean-pole man to everyone who came out to our Empty Bottle gig. ‘Twas a success, indeed! Jack White even showed up while the Greenhornes were on and bought one of our 7-inch singles. Very good, then. Clear vinyl for all.
Believe it or not, our album is progressing. We’re currently hard at work mixing and putting the finishing touches on “Catacomb,” which you probably know from our live set but not by name. Anyway, it’s T. Rex’s “Mambo Sun” in pill form, ground up and mixed into your evening applesauce. Mayhap I’ll put a pinch of cinnamon on top, I will.

Those of you who live in the Chicago area may be familiar with JBTV, Chicago’s long-standing rock television show. Anyhow, Jerry Bryant, the wolfman-esque MC, has been showing our new video for “Change My Mind.” It features entertaining footage of us gallivanting around Phantom Manor studios whilst recording the track. Look for it at 11pm on channel 62 (WJYS // Ch. 18 on Comcast) and at midnight on Sundays // 8pm on Thursdays on The Loop, Channel 25. Phew.

Our next gig isn’t until Saturday, October 15th @ Beat Kitchen, so hang in there!

Carl Saff's new studio is finished and we're back to recording and mixing! The following tracks are now complete: Fire In The Hearth, The Pragmatician & Change My Mind. Check out the upcoming shows page for details on our next gig at Empty Bottle with the Greenhornes on Wednesday, August 31st. Screwball Press has created some amazing posters to promote it.

July 2005
Work is coming along slowly, but surely on our full-length album. Carl Saff, engineer extraordinaire, is making some major adjustments to the studio, but work will resume in early July if all goes as expected. Check back for sneak peaks of songs as the recording progresses.

If you need to contact us, feel free to send an email to the Baron via thesaturdaynights@yahoo.com.

As you can see, the new website is up and running and we're very excited about it. This time, we're going to make an effort to keep it as up-to-date as possible. Our new, clear-vinyl 7", featuring brand new recordings of Julianna, Convince Me and Stranded, is now available for purchase via Pay Pal on our MP3s page or at shows.
